Genuine MAN solenoid for the D2866 E, 664 grams. A solenoid converts a small electrical signal into a mechanical movement, and in an engine's control system it is usually what stops the engine or engages something. Solenoid coils fail from heat and from being held energised longer than intended — which on a stop solenoid means a circuit fault elsewhere can destroy the solenoid as a side effect. Where a solenoid has failed hot, look for what kept it energised rather than simply fitting another.
