Genuine MAN filter housing for the oil filter on the D2840 LE301. Housings are replaced rarely and usually for one of three reasons: corrosion at the sealing face, a stripped thread where the element or the centre bolt fits, or cracking from over-tightening or from freezing. The third is a marine problem specifically — a housing left full over a hard winter can split, and the failure is discovered at the first start of the season rather than when it happened.
