About this part
Genuine MAN camshaft for the D2676 LE1, LE5 and LE6 build ranges, the 12.4-litre in-line six. What kills camshafts on marine diesels is almost never the camshaft: it is the oil supply reaching it. Lobes and followers are lubricated by oil arriving through drillings in the block and the shaft itself, and those passages are narrow enough to be affected by sludge from extended drain intervals, by debris after an earlier failure elsewhere, or simply by oil that has thinned with fuel dilution. Pitting and spalling on a lobe face are the visible result of a lubrication problem rather than of a material one. Before fitting a replacement, confirm the drillings are clear and establish what the oil has been doing, because the new shaft depends on exactly the same supply.
