Genuine MAN camshaft for the D2842 LE100, LE200 and LE400 build ranges. Before condemning a camshaft, take the followers out and look at them, because they carry the diagnosis. A follower with a pitted or spalled face confirms the shaft is worn; a follower with a bright polished face and a shaft with measurable lift loss suggests something else has been happening; and followers worn unevenly across the engine point at an oil distribution problem rather than at a shaft at the end of its life. That inspection costs nothing beyond the time to remove them and is a far better basis for an expensive decision than the noise the engine is making, which on a marine diesel is rarely diagnostic on its own.
