Genuine MAN intercooler for the D2840, D2842 and D2848. Oil in the charge air ducting is a common finding and an ambiguous one. A small amount is normal on any turbocharged engine with crankcase breathing routed into the intake, and heavy accumulation points at turbocharger seals or at excessive crankcase pressure from worn rings. Because oil collects at the low point, the intercooler is where it is usually noticed. The useful response is to establish where it came from rather than simply to drain it: an intercooler full of oil is reporting on the engine, and cleaning it without finding the source means finding it again at the next service. Measuring crankcase pressure distinguishes worn rings from turbocharger seals directly, and it is a straightforward test with the right gauge.
