The engines fall into two designs. The D4 and D6 (3.67 and 5.5 litres) and the 7.7-litre D8, launched in 2016, are common-rail engines; the D4 and D6 here are listed with the Aquamatic sterndrive, so their catalogues include drive, steering and anode parts. The D11 and D13 are larger in-line sixes, 10.84 and 12.78 litres, with electronic unit injectors instead of a common rail.

The variant code after the model name matters more than it looks. Two D13 variants in our catalogue can have fewer than half of their part numbers in common, and so do the D6-330A-F and D6-340A-G. Take the full designation, for example D13C4-B MP, from the engine plate and open that engine.

Volvo Penta's own categories are kept: marine drives and propulsion, engine cooling, wiring harnesses, hardware and common parts and so on. Where Volvo Penta has replaced a number, the part's specifications show its replacement status and earlier numbers.
