Genuine MAN fracture-split connecting rod for the D2866 LE401. A bent rod is the signature of hydraulic loading — water reaching a cylinder through the exhaust while the engine is cranked, which on a marine installation is a routine enough failure to be worth checking for as a matter of course rather than only when suspected. The bend is often small enough to go unnoticed in a strip-down, and an engine reassembled with a slightly bent rod runs with the piston loaded to one side of its bore, producing accelerated skirt and bore wear that presents months later as high oil consumption. Have rods checked for bend and twist on a fixture where the engine's history includes any suspicion of water ingress.
