The groove count has to match the belt driving it: a two-groove pulley takes a two-belt Powerband or a matched pair, and the arrangement is specified as a set. Where a pulley has been changed at some point in an engine's life, checking that the groove count still matches what the rest of the drive expects is worth doing before a belt is ordered.
