Genuine MAN fracture-split connecting rod for the D2866 E in-line six. The bolts are the part of a connecting rod most often reused and least often suitable for reuse. Rod bolts on engines of this type are torqued into their yield range, which means they are stretched permanently at installation and cannot be relied on to produce the same clamp load a second time — a reused bolt may hold, or may let the cap move microscopically under load until the bearing fails. New bolts are supplied for this reason and are cheap against the consequences. Tighten them by the specified method, whether angle or stretch, rather than by torque alone, since torque readings on a yielding fastener describe friction more than clamp load.
