About this part
Genuine MAN torsional vibration damper for the D2866 LE401. Two construction types appear on engines of this class and they age differently. A rubber-element damper carries an outer inertia ring bonded to the hub through an elastomer layer, and it fails by the elastomer hardening, cracking or letting the ring shift position. A viscous damper instead runs a free inertia ring inside a sealed housing filled with silicone fluid, and it fails when that fluid thickens or the housing is dented enough to touch the ring. What the two share is that neither gives warning, and neither is serviceable — there is nothing to adjust, re-torque or top up, and a damper that has done its hours is replaced instead of assessed. If this number came off an old parts list, confirm the current one before ordering.
