About this part
Genuine MAN heat exchanger tube bundle for the D2848, D2840 and D2842. Cleaning a bundle, before any thought of replacing it, is usually the first option, and the method matters: mechanical rodding removes silt and growth, while chemical descaling addresses hard scale, and using the wrong one achieves little. What must be avoided is anything abrasive inside the tubes, since the tube wall is thin by design and the corrosion resistance depends on its surface. Where tubes have been perforated and not merely fouled — which shows up as coolant loss with no external leak, or oil and coolant appearing in the raw water discharge — the bundle is replaced; repair is not available. Where a bundle has been cleaned repeatedly over many years, its wall thickness is worth measuring, not assuming, since cleaning removes material as well as deposits.
