Where an engine consumes oil with no external leak and good compression, the ventilation system deserves examination before anything else: a separator that has stopped separating sends oil mist into the intake, where it is burnt. The consumption looks exactly like worn rings and costs a great deal less to put right. The test is simple enough: look for oil in the intake pipework downstream of the ventilation connection.
