Genuine MAN connecting rod for the governor actuator on the D2840 LE301 — despite the name, not a piston connecting rod but a link in the control linkage between the actuator and the injection pump's fuel rack. Its job is to translate the actuator's movement into rack travel, and wear in its joints shows up as lost motion: the engine hunts at idle, responds imprecisely to the throttle, or holds speed poorly under changing load, all of which invite a diagnosis somewhere in the fuel system. Linkage wear is cheap to rule out and easy to overlook. Check the joints for play with the engine stopped before pursuing anything more expensive in the governing system. Linkage play is also one of the few faults that gets worse in a way an operator notices gradually and never quite reports, so on a boat with a new skipper it is worth checking as a matter of course.
