Genuine MAN radiator core for the D2866 LE401. Where a marine installation uses a radiator rather than a keel cooler or a raw water heat exchanger — typically on vessels operating in debris-laden or very shallow water, or on some stationary and auxiliary applications — the core performs the same function with air as the cooling medium. That changes the maintenance picture entirely: there is no raw water circuit to foul, no anodes to renew and no impeller to replace, but the air side requires clearance and cleanliness, and the engine space has to move enough air. Blocked fins and restricted airflow replace fouling as the failure mode. Engine room ventilation is therefore part of the cooling system on such an installation, and restricting it has the same effect as blocking the core.
