Genuine MAN crankshaft timing gear assembly for the D2866 LE401. Supplied as an assembly, which removes the question of matching the gear to the parts it seats against — a useful simplification on a component where the fit onto the crankshaft nose is what determines whether the gear runs true. A gear running even slightly out of true loads one side of every tooth mesh in the train behind it, and the resulting wear pattern is not confined to the gear that caused it: the camshaft and injection pump drive gears downstream pick up the same uneven contact. That is why a gear train is assessed as a train rather than a set of parts. This number has been superseded for the application, so confirm the current one if you are working from an older parts list.
