Genuine MAN gudgeon pin for the D2866 E. The pin is the hinge between piston and connecting rod, and it carries the full force of combustion in shear while turning through a small arc in a bush that is lubricated by splash rather than by pressure. That combination — heavy load, small movement, marginal lubrication — is why the pin and its bush are matched to fine clearances and why wear here produces a distinctive light double knock at low load rather than the deeper knock of a bearing. Pins are supplied with their pistons in assemblies and separately for rebuilds; where one is being reused, measure it rather than judging by appearance. Pin and bush are measured together, since either can be the worn half and the clearance figure alone does not say which.
