Genuine MAN generator bracket for the D2866 LE401. An alternator bracket does more than hold the unit: it sets belt alignment, and belt alignment determines whether the belt runs true or wears itself and its pulleys prematurely. A bracket that has been distorted by over-tensioning, or whose mounting holes have elongated over years of adjustment, allows the alternator to sit slightly askew — and the resulting belt wear is usually blamed on the belt. Check alignment with a straight edge across the pulley faces when a bracket or an alternator is renewed, ; assumption is what catches people out the geometry is correct because everything bolted up. Belt alignment checked with a straight edge is a two-minute job that prevents a belt from being blamed for a bracket's fault.
