Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D2840 LE100, LE200 and LE400 builds. Noise from a pump of this type separates into two quite different problems. A squeal or chirp that changes with engine speed usually belongs to the drive — a slipping belt or a misaligned pulley — and is inexpensive. A rumbling or grinding that rises with shaft speed and can be felt through the pump body is the bearing, and that is a pump-off job. The distinction matters because the second sound rarely improves and frequently precedes a seizure, which on a belt-driven pump can strip the belt and take the alternator's drive with it. Where a pump is noisy, establish which of the two it is before deciding how urgent the repair has become.
