About this part
Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D2866 and D2876 in-line sixes. Inside a flexible impeller pump there is a wear plate and a cam, and both matter to how well the pump primes. The impeller vanes sweep against the cam to create the volume change that moves water, and they run against the wear plate at the end face — as that plate becomes grooved, the pump loses the ability to lift water on a dry start, even though it may still flow adequately once primed. An engine that has become reluctant to establish cooling flow after standing, but runs correctly once going, is usually describing a worn wear plate rather than a failing impeller. Both the plate and the cam are usually included in a full service kit, which is the argument for fitting the kit rather than the impeller alone.
