Genuine MAN drive gear for the oil pump on the D2866 LE401 and D2866 E. This gear takes the pump's drive from the engine's gear train, and its failure mode is distinct from wear inside the pump: a stripped or cracked drive gear removes oil pressure completely and immediately rather than degrading it. That makes it one of the small number of components whose failure requires stopping the engine at once rather than investigating under way. Its condition is worth inspecting whenever the timing case is open, since access is the expensive part and the gear itself is not. Check the teeth for cracking at the roots as well as for wear on the flanks. Cracks at the tooth roots are the failure that gives no warning, and they are visible only with the gear clean and well lit.
