Genuine MAN oil dipstick for the D2866 E, 327 mm. A dipstick and its guide tube are a calibrated pair: the marks are set for that tube in that sump, so a dipstick from another engine gives a confident and wrong reading. Where an engine's oil level has never looked right, checking that the dipstick matches the tube is worth doing before anything is concluded about consumption. It is a five-minute check that has settled a good many arguments about oil consumption.
