About this part
Genuine MAN turbocharger for the D2842 LE301, LE302 and the LE403-420 build range. The habit that kills more marine turbochargers than any mechanical defect is shutting the engine down straight off load. The rotating assembly keeps spinning after the oil pump has stopped, and the heat soaking out of the turbine housing cooks the oil left in the bearing housing into hard carbon — which then restricts the oil feed for every subsequent start. Idling for a few minutes before shutdown lets the turbine slow and the housing temperature fall while oil is still circulating, and costs nothing but patience at the quay. On a working boat that has been pushing hard against a tide, it is the single cheapest piece of turbocharger maintenance available. This number is also listed as a remanufactured exchange unit.
