Supplied complete, which on a connecting rod means the rod, its cap, the bolts and the small-end bush arrive together and correctly matched — the fracture faces paired, the bore machined in that assembled state, and the bush already fitted and sized. That matters because each of those relationships is established during manufacture and cannot be recreated by combining separately sourced parts: a cap from another rod will not seat on this fracture face, and a bush fitted and reamed outside the assembly is unlikely to end up parallel with the big end. Where the history of a rod is unknown, a complete assembly removes several questions at once. It also removes the risk of assembling a rod from parts that were each correct and together are not.
