Genuine MAN piston for the D2862 and D2868. Everything a piston depends on sits outside the piston. The oil film on the bore is maintained by the rings and by oil thrown from the crankshaft; the cooling of the crown on engines of this class often relies on an oil spray jet directed at its underside; and the clearance it runs at depends on the bore being round and straight. Where a piston has failed, all three are worth checking before the replacement goes in — a blocked oil spray nozzle in particular will destroy a new piston as efficiently as it destroyed the last one, and it is a small component that is easy to overlook during a rebuild.
