Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D0836, MAN's truck-derived 6.9-litre in-line six adapted for marine use. The raw water side is the part of a marinised engine with no road-going equivalent, and it is where most marine-specific failures on a block of this origin begin. Everything else about the engine has a service history measured in millions of road units; the seawater pump, the heat exchanger and the exhaust elbow do not. That is worth remembering when maintenance is planned by analogy with the truck engine, since the intervals that matter most on a boat are the ones the truck schedule has nothing to say about. Build the raw water side into the service schedule explicitly ; assumption is what catches people out the engine's own intervals cover it.
