The needle inside a nozzle is lapped to its body as a matched pair, with clearances fine enough that the two parts are not interchangeable with any other set — which is why a nozzle is supplied and replaced as a unit rather than as components, and why cleaning one in anything abrasive ruins it. The same precision explains the sensitivity to water in the fuel: water disrupts the thin fuel film between needle and body, and in a marine installation, where tanks breathe humid air and condensation is routine, that makes the water trap a nozzle-protection device rather than a housekeeping item.
