It meshes with the 160-tooth ring gear MAN lists for these same engines, giving a reduction of roughly 17.8 to one — which is why a small motor can turn a large diesel. The pinion and ring gear wear as a pair, so a pinion with damaged teeth means the ring gear needs inspecting too.
