Genuine MAN commutator end shield for the D2866 LE401, D2866 E, D2842 LE443 and D2848 LE422, 967 grams and still supplied under its own number. Where one end shield covers four engines across three families, it is a sensible item to hold if starters are rebuilt in-house. The bearing seat is the dimension to check on an old one: a shield whose seat has worn oval will let the armature run off-centre, and the brushes then wear unevenly around the commutator.
