About this part
Genuine MAN heat exchanger tube bundle for the D2866 and D2876 in-line sixes. The bundle is the working part of a marine heat exchanger: raw water is pumped through the inside of its tubes while engine coolant circulates around the outside, and heat crosses the tube wall between them. Tubes for this duty are normally cupronickel or, on some applications, titanium, chosen because ordinary copper or steel would not survive continuous seawater flow. The bundle is also the part that fouls — scale, silt and marine growth build up inside the tubes and reduce heat transfer long before they block flow entirely. An engine that has slowly become less tolerant of full load on a hot day is usually describing a bundle that needs cleaning rather than a cooling system that has failed.
