Genuine MAN oil cooler for the D2866 LE401 and D2866 E. Coolers foul on both sides and for different reasons. The oil side accumulates sludge where drain intervals have been stretched or where the engine has run cool for long periods, and that sludge insulates exactly the surfaces meant to transfer heat. The coolant side scales where the closed circuit has been run with plain water or with a weak antifreeze concentration, since the corrosion inhibitors are what keep deposits from forming. Both are preventable through maintenance , short of repairable through cleaning, which is the argument for correct oil intervals and correct coolant specification. Coolant concentration is checked with a refractometer rather than by appearance, and the instrument costs less than a single cooler.
