About this part

Genuine MAN valve stem seal in the D25/D28 size, for the D2866 LE401 and D2840 LE301. A valve stem seal does not exclude oil entirely — it meters it, leaving exactly enough to lubricate the stem in its guide. That is why the failure mode is a specific one: worn seals let oil down the guide and produce blue smoke on start-up and on deceleration, when manifold depression is highest, rather than continuously. An engine that smokes only in those conditions is describing the seals rather than the rings.
