About this part
Genuine MAN raw water pump for the D2866, the 11.97-litre in-line six. Everything upstream of the pump determines how long it lasts, and the list is short enough to check properly: the seacock, the strainer and its basket, the intake hose and its internal condition. Intake hoses fail from the inside as they age, delaminating and collapsing under suction without any external sign, and a partially collapsed hose starves the pump exactly as a blocked strainer would while looking perfectly sound. Where a pump has failed prematurely, the useful question is what it was trying to draw through, since replacing the pump alone leaves the restriction in place. Squeezing an intake hose by hand while the engine runs is a crude test that finds a surprising number of collapsed ones.
